update

We have received word that Brent has been spotted a few miles from Two Rivers walking in front of the team to keep them going. They have been passed by Martin Buser. This is a huge bummer. Mark told me they wanted to stop at Chena Hot springs and after that slowed way down. Brent had to walk them out of Two Rivers and apparently they did not get going. We do not expect him to finish until late tonight or early in the morning. I will update more if I get any more info.

I'm at a loss for words to tell you how sorry I was to hear about this. For both you and the team to have worked so hard for so long and have what you hoped for so close. I can only say you are a lucky man. You're lucky that you have so much support and love from so many. Lucky that this temporary setback has happened in the beginning of your mushing career and not when you were much older. It didn't happen when you were in sight of the winners banner after many years of close finishes. You have many years ahead of you to learn from this. My only hope is that the dogs feel as happy as you will when you do cross the finish line. You've already proven to be a winner with the sportsmanship you've shown and your selfless acts. I know your grandma and grandpa are proud of you as am I.

This is possibly the toughest problem a musher could have. Learn from it and move on. Your dogs love you and I'm sure that someday you'll figure each other out and be an even greater team.

Love US

Brent,

Sorry to hear that your having a set back. I helped chip dogs at the '08 Quest and seeing how you handled your dogs I knew they were lucky to have you. I followed you last year and I have followed you this year. Maybe the dogs know something we all don't. You have many years of good mushing left and many young GREAT dogs to do it with. I know this will not stand in your way. Give them dogs a pep talk and they will get on with it. :)

Brent, I think Steve said a lot. You guys are an awesome team and you comment reflect that. I got out of work early and was at the finish line waiting in the warm weather with my co workers. I am sorry that things didn't turn out as expected. I have about a half dozen or more caribou and moose leg bones out in my yard for your dogs. I can cut them on the band saw so you have more. I think they deserve a treat! Let me know I can drop them off or you can pick them up. Keep up all the hard work!!! Alex
ps just saw that you finished as I was typing this before going to bed. I am pissed that I didn't walk down to the Chena to see you! Congrats!!! Let me know if you sponsor dogs again next year! Rest up you deserve it! Alex
